Art Blakey is such an immense figure in the history of jazz that it is hard to assess his legacy objectively. He leaves behind him incredible albums, many disciples and the Jazz Messengers, who have continued to perpetuate his tradition. This year, marking the centenary of his birth, the cream of the crop of American musicians are coming together on stage at the Nice Jazz Festival for a unique tribute led by Ralph Peterson.
